Ignite a spark; fan the flame
We believe that every girl who experiences life in the Junior School is imbued with a passion for learning that is sparked by innovative, purposeful and challenging learning opportunities.
Staff work collaboratively with each student to set learning goals, identify their most effective methods of learning and to educate each girl as to how to measure their own growth. Our students are mentored to embrace constructive feedback in order to engage in the next level of learning challenges.
In addition to the fundamentals of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences and Technologies, students collaborate and generate creative thought as they engage in specialist subjects learning from expert educators in Visual Arts, Health & Physical Education, Music, Drama, Dance, Religious Education and French. Students in Prep experience Japanese for a semester and then again in Year 6 where students learn Japanese for an academic year. Students from Years 3 to 6 receive instrumental music lessons in addition to their subject study of Music.
Our approach to educating the students in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) involves students learning Technologies skills and knowledge explicitly and engaging in project work with a cross-curricular focus. This methodology ensures students are able to seamlessly use their technology skills across many different learning areas to achieve learning goals. Our students complete a range of Technologies based projects including working collaboratively with their peers to design and create bridge building, soundtracks in Music, program and design code cracking devices and designing, coding, and creating apps that assist in solving real-world problems.
