We are pleased to announce that the Year 12 seniors at St Hilda's School actively participated in the Cancer Council Ponytail Project Chop, an impactful fundraising campaign that was first initiated in 2015. This initiative, supported by Sustainable Salons, collaborates with charitable organisations such as the Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation (AAAF), The Children's Charity, and Freedom Wigs NZ. Donated ponytails are transformed into charitable wigs or used to fund life-changing programs.
This year, 80 of our dedicated students committed to participating in this noble cause by 'going for the chop.' Their collective efforts raised an impressive $55,059, showcasing their dedication to making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer and hair loss conditions.
The Hair Chop Assembly, held on Friday, 16th August, was a resounding success. The event featured heartfelt speeches from students and staff, who shared personal stories and highlighted the significance of the Ponytail Project. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride as students bravely had their ponytails cut off, knowing their contributions would positively impact many lives.
We were delighted to see a strong turnout from the school community, including parents, teachers, and local supporters. Their presence and encouragement greatly contributed to the event's success, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.
The funds raised will go towards creating wigs for children and adults experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions, as well as supporting vital programs that improve the quality of life for those affected. We are immensely proud of our students for their compassion, generosity, and commitment to this cause.
