From the Principal - April 2024
Excellence in girls’ education and providing a rigorous learning environment, which is active, creative, and innovative with a focus on developing the whole girl, continues to guide a St Hilda’s experience. Every day I spend at St Hilda’s is punctuated by the joy of seeing our girls learning, living and growing in and beyond their classrooms. Grounded in relationships that ensure each of our girls is known and cared for, St Hilda's School continues to be a leader in girls' education.
As part of our continuous improvement process, I wish to provide opportunities for students, parents and staff to provide us with feedback relating to their views of the School across a wide range of areas.
This week, students, parents and staff received invitations from MMG Education to complete a feedback questionnaire. At the conclusion of the research period, MMG Education will provide me with a report. I will then provide opportunities for members of the School community to receive feedback from the research. This will play an important part in shaping our path forward and continuing to ensure excellence in education at St Hilda’s today and tomorrow. If you have any questions regarding the project, please email [email protected].
I look forward to the valuable contribution you will be making to this important project by completing your questionnaire. Parent Connect events in Term 3 will provide us the opportunity to explore some of the trends and to discuss the path ahead for St Hilda's School.
ANZAC Day
On one of Australia’s most important dates, it was with immense pride that we saw many students, families and staff representing St Hilda’s School at ANZAC Day marches and services across the Gold Coast, including at Southport, Runaway Bay and TSS. Commemorations of the ANZACs and the sacrifices made by those brave men and women who served, and those who serve today, and the values of mateship, endurance, courage, discipline, and initiative continue to underpin the very fabric of what it means to be Australian. Lest we forget.
Peter Greste
A reminder that on Monday, 29 April our International Group will host a Q&A Session with internationally acclaimed journalist Peter Greste in the Granowski Auditorium. The first community event in this new building is sure to be an afternoon to remember. This event is free for St Hilda’s School students and $25 for General Admission tickets which can be purchased via this link.
Sport and Rowing Season
How wonderful to see our girls out on the water as our Rowing program commenced for another year. We welcome our new Head of Rowing, Oliver Wilson-Haffenden and look forward to his contribution to our program this season. Thank you to our RSG for the Rowing Parents Soiree to kick off the season last Friday and to all of the RSG parents who man the BBQs each morning as the girls come off the water.
On Saturday we hosted Woodford House, Hawkes Bay NZ, at St Hilda’s playing a highly contested game of Netball and Soccer and Andrews Cup and QGSSSA fixtures resumed last week. It will undoubtedly be another highly successful Sporting Season for St Hilda’s
The Addams Family
Over forty girls are performing in The Addams Family presented by TSS next weekend. Musicals require months of dedicated rehearsals and provide such a wonderful opportunity to learn in a creative ensemble of artists and it is wonderful to be able to partner with our brother school. I look forward to attending opening night next Friday.
Boarding Roadshows
I look forward to visiting families and communities in Goondiwindi and Rockhampton over the coming weeks. Having grown up in country Canada, I have always relished opportunities to spend time in rural Australia. It will be wonderful to connect with our Boarding community in their home towns.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
